Maria Persson Gulda

CTO/CPO, H2 Green Steel

Maria Persson Gulda started her career as a professional golfer. Given the choice between going on the South African tour and doing research, she chose the latter and earned a PhD at Harvard. She then went on to become a partner at consulting giant Mckinsey in the US before landing the role of Chief Technology Officer and Project Manager for H2 Green Steel in 2020.

Founded in 2020 by Harald Mix and others, H2 Green Steel is a Swedish company that aims to produce fossil-free steel using hydrogen. The steel plant in Boden is expected to start up in 2024 with a capacity of 2.5 million tons/year. The project is expected to create 1,500 jobs in the region. In addition to steel plants, the investment also includes a hydrogen production facility. The goal is to produce 5 million tons of steel per year from 2030 for the automotive industry and white goods manufacturers, among others.
