Interview with Björn Lyngfelt from SCA, principal partners of the Bünsow Business Growth Forum.
Why is the Bünsow Business Growth Forum an important event for you to participate in?
– We live in a time of challenge and rapid change – not least the ongoing coronavirus pandemic shows that conditions can change quickly and that black swans are flying all around us. It is therefore valuable to meet other people who want to see and drive development, learn from their experiences and offer ours.
What factors do you think are important to promote and stimulate growth?
– It could be a long list, but if the list is short, I think it can be summarized in initiative, creativity and innovation – the ability to think new, but also to purposefully turn new ideas into realistic and feasible plans.
Given the challenging times we live in, what do you think are the most important factors to focus on to foster future growth?
– Sundsvall was founded 400 years ago, not least to exploit the natural resources available in the region. Renewable resources such as forests and energy from wind and water are even more important today than before. Norrland is beginning to regain its place as the engine of development in Sweden and northern Europe, not only as a source of raw materials but also as a region where creative development plans can be realized.
How important has Bünsow been to SCA historically?
– Bünsow is one of the fathers of SCA. The company he took over and developed was one of those that became Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget SCA in 1929. His summer house, Merlo Castle, has been the executive residence of SCA and has since become our archive, one of Sweden’s most comprehensive corporate archives.
Your industry is currently undergoing major changes, what position is SCA taking in this journey of change?
– We are currently in the process of leaving the printing paper product area and with it the paper production at Ortviken’s industrial site. Instead, we invest in products with development potential such as pulp, packaging paper, wood products and renewable energy. The ambition is both to develop our forest resources and to create as much value as possible in and from them.
