Tobias Billström is a geopolitical and international relations advisor with a long and multifaceted career in top Swedish politics. For more than two decades, he has had a decisive influence on Swedish foreign and migration policy, serving as Minister for Foreign Affairs, Minister for Migration and First Deputy Speaker of the Swedish Parliament.
As Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2022 to 2024, Billström was a key player in Sweden’s path to NATO membership and was responsible for managing several complex diplomatic issues at a time of increasing geopolitical tensions. Previously, he was Sweden’s first Minister for Migration, with responsibility for the whole area of migration, a role that has shaped the public discourse on migration for a long time. Through his roles, he has developed a deep understanding of how international policies are shaped, communicated and negotiated in both bilateral and multilateral contexts.
In addition to his policy work, he is also an active writer. In his book Skarpt läge, he provides a personal and initiated insight into the foreign policy machinery and the challenges that characterize today’s diplomacy.
Billström holds a Master of Arts in History from Lund University and a Master of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge. The combination of practical experience at the highest level and a solid academic background makes him a sought-after voice in conversations about Sweden’s role in the world and about future security and foreign policy.
