Matilda Afzelius is CEO of RES Nordic, where she is responsible for the strategic management and development of the company’s renewable energy projects.RES is the world’s largest independent renewable energy company, operating in 24 countries and active in wind, solar, energy storage, green hydrogen, transmission and distribution. RES has been an industry innovator for over 40 years and has delivered more than 27GW of renewable energy projects worldwide.
Originally a lawyer specializing in environmental law, Matilda realized early on that she would rather build renewable energy projects than represent them legally.Under her leadership, RES Norden has gained international attention by successfully combining the company’s vision of clean and affordable energy for all with a successful business model.
Among the projects that stand out under Matilda’s leadership is the Björnberget Wind Farm in Ånge municipality, one of the country’s largest land-based energy parks. Most recently, Matilda’s team has developed and sold the much-publicized Alby green hydrogen project, where RES, together with partners Norsk e-Fuel and Prime Capital, is preparing for large-scale production of sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF).
Since 2023, Matilda has been a board member of the European industry organization Wind Europe. At home, Matilda is active in the nomination committee of the largest industry association in renewable energy, Green Power Sweden, where she has previously been chairman and a long-standing board member.
