
Marcus Matteby – CIO Sundsvall Ånge municipality, member AI Commission
Marcus Matteby is the CIO of Ånge-Sundsvall, the world’s first digital municipality merger. Under Marcus’ leadership, Sundsvall has received the award for Digitalization Municipality of the Year and he tops the list of those who have the most influence on digitalization in the public sector. He has a long background in digital transformation and AI and is a finalist for the CIO of the Year award presented by Dagens Industri. Marcus is a PhD student at the executive level and part of the Swedish Centre for Digital Innovation’s graduate school where he studies forms of collaboration and strategies for improved digital transformation in the public sector. His research focuses on collective digital transformation with the aim of reducing inequalities in digital welfare.
In addition to his role in the municipalities of Ånge and Sundsvall, Marcus is also one of the members of the government’s AI Commission. This commission is tasked with analyzing the conditions and making concrete proposals on how Sweden can become a leader in AI research and use. Marcus is also one of the authors of the current anthology “AI the power over decisions, what everyone should know about algorithms in the public sector.”
