Alf Isaksson

Research Fellow, ABB

Alf Isaksson is an expert in industrial automation with a long career in both academia and industry. He is currently a Research Fellow at ABB Corporate Research in Västerås, but also a part-time adjunct professor of control engineering at KTH in Stockholm. Previously, Alf was globally responsible for ABB’s research in the field of Control during the years 2012-2019 with more than 100 researchers at 7 research centers.

After studies in computer engineering and a PhD in control engineering at Linköping University, Alf spent a year at The University of Newcastle in Australia. Back in Sweden, he moved to KTH and became a professor of control engineering in 1999, but switched to industry and ABB in 2001. Alf is a popular lecturer and has given plenary lectures at several scientific conferences. As a researcher and research leader, he has experience of many projects in the process industry in particular, but also in electrical power grids and industrial robots.

Alf has been a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) since 2013, and was appointed Fellow of the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) in 2023 in connection with the World Congress in Yokohama, Japan.
